Kids-N-Hope: Credit Unions in the Community

American Heritage FCU and 98.1 WOGL held their Annual Car Show, Craft Show and Member Appreciation Day at the CUs headquarters in Philadelphia. It raised more than $10,000 for the Kids-N-Hope Foundation, which supports the Music Therapy Program at the Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia. The CU also awarded $1,000 college scholarships to 20 young members.
In Lowell, Mass., more than 80 friends, family members and employees of Jeanne DArc CU rallied in support of Lowell General Hospitals TeamWalk for Cancer Care, raising more than $12,000 to pay for medication, nutritional supplements, nursing visits and other services.
Greylock FCU, Pittsfield, Mass., held its eighth Community Shred Day, shredding more than 5 tons of paper and raising $1,420 in donations for Berkshire United Way.
Students at a Howard County, Md., high school bested 3,979 other teams from across the country in a personal financial skills competition. All four members of the championship team are participants in the Millionaires Club, a financial education program created by the Credit Union Foundation MD|DC. The ARL Millionaires Club is sponsored by SECU of Maryland.
Heather Maxwell, a member of Gulf Winds FCU, Pensacola, Fla., was the grand prize winner of the TurboTax $25,000 Payday sweepstakes.
The largest credit union based in Austin, Texas, University FCU, celebrated the 80th anniversary of its formation after growing to more than $2 billion in assets and 204,000 members.
Energy FCU, Rockville, Md., made two financial contributions in support of community healthcare services: $2,555 to Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Centers pediatric floor, and $3,500 to Adventist HealthCares Healthy Community Impact Fund.
Gerber FCU, Fremont, Mich., awarded Susan Elgie with a $100 Visa Gift Card as a drawing prize following the Home & Garden Show hosted by the River Country Chamber of Commerce.
NW Priority CU, Portland, Ore., held a financial reality fair with Franklin High School. Separately, the CU held a savings contest for members 18 and younger, with more than 50 youth members depositing nearly $4,000, and it raised $500 for The Boys & Girls Club of Portland during Youth Month and donated $2,000 to Credit Unions For Kids.
The Security Service FCU Charitable Foundation, San Antonio, awarded a $2,500 grant to Seton Home to help provide residents with basic needs, including baby formula, diapers, wipes, shoes, coats, school uniforms and several other necessities.
