Cordia Chooses Citi Veteran as Chief Risk Officer

Cordia Bancorp Inc. has appointed David C. Bushnell as its chief risk officer, the company said Wednesday.

Cordia, which is based in Midlothian, Va., is a bank holding company with a majority stake in Bank of Virginia, which is also based in Midlothian.

Bushnell was Citigroup Inc.'s senior risk officer from 2003 to 2007 and was Citi's chief administrative officer in 2007, the year he retired from the company. Bushnell is currently managing director of the financial services consulting firm Bushnell Consulting LLC and is a member of the board of RenaissanceRe Holding Ltd., an insurance provider.

"He says that he really likes the scale of a smaller setting, which allows him to see the impact of his work," says Jack C. Zoeller, Cordia's president and chief executive, in an interview. "Despite coming from a very large setting with really big numbers involved at Citigroup … he will treat our young loan officers as well as he would, I'm sure, top staff at Citi."

Cordia has another Citi veteran, Todd Thomson, on its team. Thomson, a member of Cordia's board, was previously CEO of Citi's private bank and held other executive roles at Citi.
