Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. said it has fired two underwriters for not cooperating with New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer’s investigation of the insurance industry.
The refusal to cooperate “gives us no alternative but to part ways with them,” Joshua King, a Hartford spokesman, said Thursday. “There is simply no room for compromise regarding The Hartford’s commitment to cooperate.”
Mr. King, who cited privacy issues, would not provide any further details regarding the two dismissed employees. But sources indicated that they were underwriters in the property-casualty operation’s Los Angeles office.
Hartford has been conducting an internal investigation related to Mr. Spitzer’s investigation of alleged bid-rigging in the insurance industry. Hartford has told its employees to cooperate fully with both external and internal investigations.
