In Brief: Aflac Names Deputy President for Japan Unit

Aflac Inc. announced Tuesday that a former Japanese banking executive will become deputy president of Aflac Japan.

Tohru Tonoike is to take the job Feb. 1. He is the president and representative director of Dai-ichi Kangyo Asset Management Co., a unit of Dai-ichi Kangyo Bank.

Mr. Tonoike has been on Aflac's board of directors since Nov. 1, 2004, but has resigned from the board and will leave it Jan. 31.

Aflac, which is based in Columbus, Ga., is the No. 1 provider of guaranteed-renewable insurance in the United States and the No. 1 insurance company in terms of individual insurance policies in Japan. Its insurance products protect more than 40 million people worldwide.
