In Brief: Ameritrade: Earnings WilI Meet Forecast

The online broker Ameritrade Holding Corp. said earnings this quarter should be at or near the high end of its previous forecast

The Omaha company also said Friday that volume averaged 146,000 trades a day in August, 1.4% more than in July. But qualified accounts - open client accounts with liquidation value of $2,000 or more - slipped to 1.73 million, from 1.74 million at the end of July.

Ameritrade also said it had promoted Jerry Bartlett to chief information officer. He will be responsible for all information technology initiatives, including business technology planning, application development, product development, and physical and information security.

Mr. Bartlett was the vice president of application development and quality assurance. Before joining Ameritrade in 1999 he held various management positions at St. Paul Cos. and the American Red Cross.
