In Brief: Barclays Makes Exec U.S. Brokerage CEO

Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays PLC, said Friday that it had promoted Gerard LaRocca to chief executive officer of Barclays Capital Inc., which is the banking company's U.S. broker-dealer.

Mr. LaRocca is to report jointly to Grant Kvalheim, co-president of Barclays Capital and regional head for the Americas, and Rich Ricci, chief operating officer.

Mr. LaRocca, who has worked at Barclays Capital since 1998, was its CFO from 1999 to 2001. He has more than 20 years' experience in the investment banking industry and previously worked at Salomon Brothers.

Barclays Capital has offices in 25 countries and employs more than 8,000 people. It has the global reach and distribution power to meet the needs of issuers and investors worldwide, the company said.
