In Brief: Dreyfus Appoints Investment Chief

Dreyfus Corp., a unit of Mellon Financial Corp., announced Monday that Phil Maisano, the head of alternative investments at Mellon Asset Management, will take the additional role of Dreyfus' chief investment officer and its vice chairman.

Mr. Maisano, 59, also was appointed to Dreyfus' board of directors and its operating committee.

He has been the chairman and chief executive officer of EACM Advisors LLC, a New York hedge fund manager, since 1988. After its purchase by Mellon in 2004, he also became head of alternative investments in the Pittsburgh banking company's asset management unit. Mr. Maisano will remain chairman of EACM but give up the CEO role.

Dreyfus, which is based in New York, had $180 billion of assets under management at Sept. 30; it is a part of Mellon Asset Management. Mellon has $918 billion of assets under management overall.
