E-Trade Financial Corp. posted a 46% increase in third-quarter earnings, in line with analyst expectations.
The online broker said net profits increased to $157 million, or 35 cents a share. Excluding acquisition-related expenses, E-Trade's earnings per share were 36 cents, matching the average estimate of analysts polled by Thomson First Call.
The New York company said it had $1.5 billion of new cash inflows during the quarter. Current investing customers opened "a high number" of new accounts, it said. It announced its results Wednesday.
