Mr. Griffin, a senior vice president, had been chief risk officer of Genworth and its predecessor company since 2000 and has been acting chief investment officer since June, the company said on Wednesday.

Mr. Griffin has worked 23 years in the insurance industry, including 14 on Wall Street as an adviser to the European and U.S. insurance sectors on investments, asset and liability management, securitization, actuarial matters, and enterprise-wide risk management. He worked at Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and MetLife.

Genworth said it is searching for a successor to Mr. Griffin as chief risk officer. The company, which General Electric Co. spun off last year, is an insurance holding company with 15 million customers and operations in 24 countries.
