The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. announced Monday the promotion of Judith A. Patterson to executive vice president of its First State Management Group subsidiary.

Ms. Patterson, 51, who previously was a senior vice president, is to be primarily responsible for all underwriting units, business systems, office services, communications, ceded reinsurance, and information technology at the Boston unit of the Hartford, Conn., company.
The Hartford's First State Management handles the parent's surplus lines and specialty property operations.
Ms. Patterson began at First State in 1975 as an underwriting assistant. Two years later she was appointed a property underwriter and subsequently rose in executive underwriting management posts.
