Third Point LLC, a New York investment management firm, has hired James Kelly for the newly created jobs of president and chief operating officer.
Founder and chief executive Daniel Loeb announced the hiring Wednesday.
Mr. Kelly has spent the past 17 years building and managing hedge funds. He co-founded the New York hedge fund company Moore Capital Management in 1989 and founded International Fund Services, a New York hedge fund administration and trade support services firm, in 1994. International Fund Services, which now services over $130 billion of hedge fund assets, was bought by State Street Corp. in 2002.
Third Point advises hedge funds that employ an event-driven, value-oriented investment strategy. The firm, which was founded in 1995, manages $4 billion of assets.
