Last year U.S. individual life insurance sales rose 7%, a rate unmatched since 2000, according to a survey by Limra International Inc.
The total face amount of policies sold rose 4% from the previous year, while the number of new policies sold declined 1%, according to the survey, which the Windsor, Conn., company released Wednesday.
Of the 74 companies that participated in the survey, more than 60% increased their total life sales, and more than 40% showed double-digit increases. A third of companies experienced declines.
