In Brief: Mellon Unit Hires Putnam Exec

Standish Mellon Asset Management, a unit of Mellon Financial Corp., said Tuesday that it had hired an executive from Putnam Investments to direct its emerging market strategies.

Alexander Kozhemiakin is to oversee Standish Mellon's emerging market debt investment and research team and co-manage its emerging market debt portfolios. He was a senior vice president and emerging market portfolio manager at Putnam, a Boston asset management company that recently agreed to be bought by a Canadian insurance company. Previously, he was an emerging markets sovereign analyst at Aeltus Investment Management in Hartford, Conn., and at Citibank in New York.

Standish Mellon, also a Boston company, had $160 billion of assets under management at Dec. 31.
