New York Life Insurance Co. said Wednesday that it had hired a former Mutual of Omaha executive to be the first vice president in charge of its Washington office.

In his new role, William Mattox is to develop policy positions for the company and be a key contact with Capitol Hill, the Bush administration, the American Council of Life Insurers, and other public policy organizations. He reports to senior vice president Jessie Colgate, who heads the company's office of governmental affairs.
Mr. Mattox worked 15 years at Mutual of Omaha, where he was its executive vice president for government affairs and oversaw all its state and federal lobbying efforts.
