Haier New York Life, the joint venture between New York Life Insurance Co. and China's Haier Group, announced the opening Tuesday of a Qingdao branch office in Shandong province, the home of Haier Group.

The office is the company's second expansion since it began operations in Shanghai in 2002; the first expansion was a branch operation in Chengdu last December. Shandong has one of the best gross domestic product growth rates of any Chinese province, and Qingdao, with a population of nearly seven million, is an engine of this growth, the company said.
Haier New York Life has more than 1,500 agents throughout China, and it has 180 employees and salespeople in Qingdao.
