Phoenix Cos. Inc. said Tuesday that it had hired Christopher R. Walsh to fill the newly created post of managing director of subadvisory and retirement.

Mr. Walsh joined Phoenix, in Hartford, Conn., from Boston-based CDC IXIS Asset Management. His initial goals are to expand Phoenix's subadvisory and retirement initiatives, the company said.
Phoenix manufactures life insurance, annuity, and asset management products. Through a variety of advisers and financial services companies, it sells to affluent and high-net-worth investors and to institutions.
