In Brief: Scottrade Posts Fiscal 1Q Profit Increase

Scottrade Inc. announced that earnings in its fiscal first quarter, which ended Dec. 31, increased 24% from a year earlier, to $54.5 billion.

Active accounts at the St. Louis online investment company increased 19%, to 1.6 million. The company's average daily trading volume increased 12%, to 125,000.

Scottrade also opened six branches during the quarter in Exton, Pa., Campbell, Calif., Ocala, Fla., Montgomery, Ala., Waite Park, Minn., and Boynton Beach, Fla. It now has 287 branches and plans to open more this quarter.
