ING Group NV has received a subpoena from New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer to provide information for his ongoing investigation into the fees paid by insurance companies to brokers.
A spokeswoman for the Amsterdam financial services company confirmed Wednesday that it had received the subpoena.
Last week Mr. Spitzer filed a suit against the New York insurance broker Marsh & McLennan Cos. regarding the contingency fees it gets for placing customers with certain insurance companies. The insurers named in the suit include American International Group Inc., Ace Ltd., Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., and Munich American Risk Partners.
ING offers banking, insurance, and asset management to more than 60 million private, corporate, and institutional clients in over 50 countries.
