A former chief operating officer of Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. will be the new president of Independent Financial Marketing Group Inc., a Sun Life Financial U.S. unit that distributes investment and insurance products through banks and credit unions.

Michael Weiss most recently was the president of Sebago Associates LLC, a New York financial services consulting business.
Mr. Weiss, 48, will join Independent on Sept. 26. He will succeed Gary Corsi, the chief financial officer of Sun Life Financial U.S., who has been serving as the unit's president on an interim basis since July.
The ultimate parent is Sun Life Financial Inc. of Toronto.
