As a result, the number of individuals who are supporting John Hancock advisers selling 401(k) plans grew by 15%, the unit announced Monday.

The 10 internal sales associates have formed a sales desk that is based in Boston and will primarily support the unit's Eastern division.

John Hancock Retirement Plan Services plans to add five more sales associates to that sales desk by the end of this year.

In addition, the unit said it plans to add sales associates to its sales desks in Chicago and Atlanta over the next year.

The eight regional vice presidents will work at John Hancock offices across the country.

Manulife had $363.5 billion of assets under management as of Sept. 30.
