New York Life Unit Adds Participant Strategist

New York Life retirement plan services, a Westwood, Mass., division of New York Life Investments, announced Monday that it had hired Deanna Garen to be the managing director of participant strategy.

In this newly created role, Ms. Garen is to run New York Life's participant communications group, the rollover strategy team, and the participant service center.

She will report to Don Salama, the senior managing director of the retirement plan services division.

Ms. Garen was an independent consultant as Garen Consulting LLC. Before that, she was a senior vice president of strategic planning and development at the retirement unit of Prudential Financial Inc. in Newark, N.J.

New York Life retirement plan services oversaw more than 1,900 comprehensive defined contribution, defined benefit, and deferred compensation plans at Dec. 31. It has offices in Westwood, Mass., and Parsippany, N.J.

New York Life Investments had $224 billion of assets under management at Dec. 31.
