Northern Trust Corp. has promoted Connie Lindsey to head corporate social responsibility.

In the newly created post, she is to report to Frederick H. Waddell, the Chicago company's president and chief executive.

Lindsey is responsible for the design and implementation of Northern Trust's corporate social responsibility goals, strategy, policies and programs globally. Her duties include oversight of its response on environmental and social issues.

Since 2005, Lindsey, an executive vice president, has been a segment head in the public entities and institutional segment of its corporate and institutional services business. Before that she was its deputy business head of operations and technology, group head in personal financial services, director of enterprise relationship management and a manager of treasury management consulting and product management.

Northern Trust, which announced the promotion Monday, had $3.2 trillion of assets under custody, including $558.9 billion under management, at June 30.
