Park Sterling Boosts Commitment to Virginia Operations

Park Sterling (PSTB) in Charlotte, N.C., has added to its recently established team in Virginia.

Park Sterling said in a press release Friday that it had hired three bankers for its wealth management team in Richmond, Va., where the $2 billion-asset company has relocated its mortgage and wealth management operations, and a chief marketing officer.

Three of the executives were lifted from the recently completed merger of Union First Market (UBSH) and StellarOne.

George Meyls, who become Park Sterling's head of private banking, had been private banking director at StellerOne. Russell Carter, a former trust advisor at Union First Market, joined Park Sterling as a trust advisor.

Park Sterling also hired Angela Ross, the former chief branding officer at StellerOne, as its chief marketing officer. Ross will also stay in Richmond.

The company also hired Alan Smith, a former relationship manager with PNC Financial's PNC Bank (PNC), as a trust advisor.

The team will work for Michael Williams, Park Sterling's head of wealth management and StellarOne's former director of wealth management.

"We are delighted to continue to enhance our wealth management team … and to strengthen these capabilities in the critical Charlotte and Richmond metro markets," James Cherry, Park Sterling's chief executive, said in the release. "Our commitment to building a significant presence in Virginia is further demonstrated by the fact that companywide leadership of wealth management, private banking, mortgage banking and marketing is all now based in Richmond."
