Prudential Head Has Directors' Support

Prudential PLC said its nonexecutive directors are backing Chief Executive Tidjane Thiam to remain in his post after his failed attempt to buy American International Group Inc.'s main Asian unit.

"The management team has the support of the nonexecutive directors," spokesman Ed Brewster said in a telephone interview Friday.

"Tidjane is our chief executive," Brewster said. "There is no change."

Thiam and Chairman Harvey McGrath came under pressure from some shareholders to step down after the abortive attempt to acquire AIA Group Ltd. cost the insurer an estimated $659 million in fees.
