Retirement Worries Persist

Though concern about being unable to pay for health care in retirement is felt by somewhat fewer Americans, 23% versus 30% in 2006, more people, 19%, are worried about having to work longer to supplement retirement savings, up from 12% in 2006, new research says.

A survey of 1,008 people by Opinion Research Corp. released Friday by Edward Jones found 26% of the respondents 45 to 54 years old worried about having to work longer. Overall, 19% dreaded having to rely on others for support, and among those 18 to 34 years old, this fear was felt by 34%.

Though "the numbers may have changed slightly from the 2006 survey, the concerns remain the same for Americans of all ages," Joan Fernandez, a principal at Edward Jones, said in a press release.
