The online stock brokerage Scottrade in St. Louis has announced that it plans to open a branch today in Plainfield, Ill.
The branch is one of several in the Chicago area. Since opening its first Illinois branch in 1989, Scottrade has expanded to 17 sites statewide, including Naperville, Tinley Park, Oak Brook, St. Charles, Schaumburg, and Park Ridge.
The new office is to be managed by a Plainfield native, Jerry Verklan, who has 13 years' experience in the financial services industry.
Scottrade is an online investment firm that provides tools and research for self-directed individual investors. It does not give investment advice, but stockbrokers are available in branch offices to answer account-related questions, provide customer service, and give tutorials on Scottrade's online trading services.
The company has 35 U.S. branches in all.
