U.S. Wireless Data Names CEO To Additional Post of Chairman

U.S. Wireless Data Inc. has named Alan B. Roberts chairman, adding to his duties as president and chief executive officer.

As chairman, Mr. Roberts succeeds company co-founder Leonard Trout, who left the board of directors in early January. Mr. Trout continues to serve as the Boulder, Colo., company's vice president of product development.

The company said Mr. Roberts, who has been president and CEO since October, was the obvious choice to become chairman as the company grows out of its startup mode and becomes more focused on marketing its wireless transaction authorization terminal.

Mr. Roberts' experience in the point of sale market includes eight years with Verifone Inc. of Redwood City, Calif., which pioneered in manufacturing and distributing compact, low-cost terminals for credit and debit card acceptance.

U.S. Wireless also named Rod Stambaugh to its board of directors.

Mr. Stambaugh, another founder of the company, is vice president of marketing and business development. With his appointment, U.S. Wireless has four board members.
