Apple Pay will expand to Canada this year, according to a report by 9to5Mac, a news site that follows Apple's activities.

According to the Jan. 9 report, Canadian companies are in negotiations with Apple to support Apple Pay in the country. The tech giant and its Canadian partners, which were not named in the report, are preparing promotional material and advertising for a launch possibly as soon as March.

It goes almost without saying that Apple would want to launch its much-hyped payments product in other countries. Speculation has mounted that Europe, the Middle East, India, and other parts of Asia will also see the service. American-based cards loaded onto Apple Pay already work with near-field communication (NFC) readers abroad, but foreign-based cards are not yet supported.
