Brighton Arms Employees With VeriFone Mobile Terminals

Accessories manufacturer Brighton Collectibles has equipped sales clerks in more than 150 of its stores nationwide with a VeriFone Systems Inc. mobile point-of-sale system, terminal-maker VeriFone announced Dec. 20.

More than 300 iPod Touch systems equipped with credit card readers using GlobalBay Mobile POS software allow Brighton sales clerks to accept payments anywhere in the store, thus reducing customer checkout lines, San Jose, Calif.-based VeriFone stated in a press release.

Shoppers aware of modern online payment technologies expect to see a similar option during an in-store experience, Sandeep Bhanote, VeriFone vice president and general manager of the Mobile Retail Systems business, stated in the release.

“Brighton Collectibles is using GlobalBay to heighten the level of engagement between customers and store associates, leading to increased sales and greater efficiency of operations,” Bhanote said.

The GlobalBay mobile retail software connects to a retailer’s existing point-of-sale and e-commerce systems, VeriFone stated.

Jerry Kohl, founder and president of City of Industry, Calif-based Brighton, said his goal was to get the sales clerks out from behind a counter to interact with customers and provide payment services.

“When a customer sees a product they like, we want to engage with them right there,” Kohl said in the release. “It makes the transaction a lot easier and saves time, and makes it easier for shoppers to justify a return visit.”

Brighton eventually may reduce the number of fixed cash registers to reduce costs and open more selling space on the floor, the release stated.
