ATM Maker Diebold Inc. has agreed to consolidate operations in a new $100 million headquarters at a to-be-determined location in the economically depressed Akron/Canton, Ohio, region.
The company says it decided to remain in northeast Ohio after discussions that included officials in other states. To ensure Diebold would stay in Ohio, the state offered about $56 million in incentives, including tax credits and loans which have been promised by Gov. John Kasich.
The consolidated facility will house 1,500 of the company’s northeast Ohio-area employees. Diebold currently is considering a handful of sites for this construction and is in negotiation with the respective property owners. Each site is located in the Akron/Canton region. Diebold plans to combine five of its current locations into a single location in the new facility.
Diebold employs approximately 2,000 associates across the state of Ohio with an annual payroll of about $125 million.
