The offers, according to a screenshot of the updated app in iTunes, provides free or discounted Dunkin' Donuts food and coffee. On users' phones, the link to the offers is presented prominently when the app launches.

Dunkin' Brands Inc. and its rival Starbucks Corp. offer mobile-pay apps for their respective stored-value cards. Starbucks has long said that its app helps speed lines in stores since it provides a way to reload cards before the customer gets to the register.

Both companies also allow users to buy virtual gift cards for other consumers within their apps.

Open-loop mobile wallet systems, such as Isis and Google Wallet, typically have a built-in offer system to entice merchants to accept mobile payments. Such apps present offers to users, sometimes targeted by location or spending history, to entice them to spend at participating merchants.
