With this update, consumers will only need to tap on the checkout button and then confirm the payment information and shipping details via Google Wallet to initiate purchases, according to Engadget's report of the Google I/O event.

The e-commerce version of Google Wallet began as Google Checkout in 2006. Google combined Checkout with Wallet, a Near Field Communication mobile payment system, in late 2011. Even after Google eliminated Checkout as a standalone product, it continued to update the e-commerce payment system. Google added a mobile commerce version at the end of 2012.
