Payment processor Heartland Payment Systems has acquired MCS Software.
MCS Software, headquartered in Madisonville, La., provides point of sale payment services for school cafeterias. The company also develops software that can scan handwritten applications for free and reduced lunches, as well as allow parents to pay online and plan menus.
Princeton, N.J.-based Heartland provides child nutrition and payment management services, including point of service terminals, an online payment portal, mobile payment capabilities and other management services, to public and private schools in the U.S.
The deal expands Heartland's position in the K-12 school nutrition and point of service technology industry. The company now serves more than 34,000 K-12 schools, about 35% of public schools in the U.S.
