Hypercom Corp. is describing its new M5000 mobile-payments terminal as “futureproof” because it designed the device to prevent obsolescence. The company foresees a place for the product in businesses ranging from hotels and restaurants to taxis and delivery companies.
“The M5000 is a technological advance that safeguards our customers’ investments in the fast-changing world of payment acceptance and opens the door for customers to generate value-added services–even without payment,” William Rossiter, Hypercom vice president, global marketing, said in a press release.
The terminal comes with a 3.5-inch color, icon-capable touch screen that helps merchants interact with cardholders, the release from the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company said. A contactless reader helps merchants accept any type of card payment, according to the release.
A standard 266-megahertz processor or an optional 400-megahertz unit powers the terminal. A software-development toolkit maximizes development efficiency and applications portability, according to the release.
An embedded security layer protects the terminals and their applications from hacking and malicious-software attacks, the release said.
