Ingenico To Install Contactless Terminals For French Rail System

Ingenico SA plans to install its newest contactless payment terminals in the 3,000 point-of-sale locations in the SNCF, or National Corporation of French Railways, the Paris-based terminal maker announced June 13.

The rail corporation chose Ingenico’s iCT250 contactless terminal and accompanying PIN pad for use at its sales desk locations, Ingenico stated in a press release.

The terminals use radio frequency identification readers to support contactless-payment acceptance in addition to traditional payments, the company stated.

As part of the transition, Ingenico is developing software required to allow the payment terminals to communicate with the rest of the rail corporation’s payment system and its existing terminals.

The Ingenico press release did not indicate a timetable for the terminal installation.

The French rail system operates through 120 countries and handled 32.6 billion euros in payments during 2011, Ingenico stated.
