Ingenico Group has provided its EMV-enabled terminals and software to the retailer Batteries Plus Bulbs, in preparation for the
Batteries Plus Bulbs in Hartland, Wis., will add Ingenico's equipment at its 650 locations in the U.S. The Ingenico terminals and software will allow the retailer to accept EMV chip-and-signature cards, EMV chip-and-PIN cards, contactless Near Field Communication payments and other types of mobile wallets.
Financial terms of the agreement between Ingenico and Batteries Plus Bulbs were not disclosed. The companies also did not disclose Batteries Plus Bulbs' previous vendor for terminals and software.
Retailers are upgrading payments equipment to accept EMV-enabled cards, as a way to reduce fraud. On Oct. 1, the liability for card fraud shifts; parties that can't handle EMV payments will be responsible for fraud costs, according to rules established by the major U.S. card networks.
