MBNA' s Contactless Strategy Extends to Samsung Pay's U.K. Debut

Card firm MBNA has joined the first wave of issuers to offer Samsung Pay when it launches in the United Kingdom.

The move fits in with MBNA’s long support for contactless payments, which it has offered in some form in the U.K. for most of the past decade.

Samsung Pay is just beginning to expand across the globe since debuting in the U.S. in September. Last month, Samsung Pay became available in China.

The service is expected to go live in the U.K. imminently. While Samsung has said it will happen in 2016, unconfirmed reports have said the service could open as soon as May, according to Digital Spy.

When it does arrive, Samsung Pay will enter a crowded market: Apple Pay has already set up shop in the U.K. and Android Pay has plans to do the same in June according to the site Android Police.
