New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority has developed a Concept of Operations for a contactless fare-payment system, the transit agency announced this week.
The plan, based on open standards for the authority’s subway and bus systems, could lead to the design, procurement and launch of a new fare-payment system, the authority noted in a news release.
The authority is making the plan available to the fare collection, technology, telecommunication, system integration and payments industries to stimulate discussion and to obtain opinions. The responses could contribute to the final plan, the authority said.
PaymentsSource first reported the authority’s plans to release a Concept of Operations in February. New York transit agencies began testing contactless payments last spring.
The authority plans to make a presentation to vendors May 10. Attendance will be limited to firms in the fare collection, technology, telecommunication, system integration or payments industries, according to the authority.
