Consumers can check the balances of their health care accounts with new mobile applications that U.S. Bancorp announced April 8.
The Minneapolis-based bank released apps for Apple Inc. devices and those that run on Google Inc.’s Android operating system. Besides checking balances of health savings, flexible spending and health reimbursement accounts, customers whose plans are with U.S. Bancorp also will be able to submit claims and send receipts using their phone’s camera through an update the bank is planning later this year.
“Whether customers are using an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Android device, they will have instant real-time access to their account,” Ralph Bernstein, senior vice president of U.S. Bancorp’s healthcare payments group, said in a press release. “That’s a tremendous benefit when you’re sitting in a doctor’s office or a pharmacy, trying to determine the best way to pay for services.”
Lighthouse1 LLC, an Edina, Minn.-based company, developed the apps, according to a U.S. Bancorp spokesperson.
