Growing steadily since their founding in 2012, the SuperPAC Friends of Traditional Banking (FOTB) now counts over 50,000 bankers and allies across the country as "friends." Tens of thousands of industry allies, in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico now receive the monthly free e-newsletter from FOTB and eagerly await the fall candidate endorsements. This milestone, reached at the end of May, will have tremendous implications on some key Congressional races in the fall.

Candidate support from PACs, ranging from state banking associations to national groups like ABA and ICBA, are vital each election cycle. However, what sets FOTB apart is instead of giving a few thousand bucks to hundreds of candidates, they are laser-focused on selecting the two or three most critical races in the country and then encouraging their growing membership base to donate what they can to those candidates.

"We look for races where the outcome can mean a real difference for a healthy banking environment and where the polls are so tight that a 'money bomb' from thousands around the country pouring in on the home stretch can make the difference," said FOTB Executive Director Mike Winder. "With FOTB's numbers crossing the 50,000 mark, the potential for tipping the scales in those critical races in very real and very exciting," he said.

Last election cycle, FOTB endorsed Rep. Zach Nunn (Iowa), helping him win his first reelection by a slim 51.8% after bankers from coast to coast donated over $100,000 to his campaign. Congressman Nunn is a free market champion on the House Financial Services Committee and Agriculture Committee, and the co-sponsor of the ACRE Act. "I am very grateful to have had the support of Friends of Traditional Banking," Nunn said. "You all swooped in to help me when I was down in the polls and helped make the difference!"

Also in 2024, FOTB endorsed Sen. Ron Johnson (Wisconsin), who squeaked out a 50.5% win over challenger Mandela Barnes thanks in part from over $230,000 in donations from hundreds of bankers. Senator Johnson is a strong advocate for traditional banking, whether on regulatory reform or tax cuts. "Senator Johnson is very grateful for FOTB's support!" said Rose Oswald Poels, president and CEO of the Wisconsin Bankers Association. "It was way too close…very glad FOTB jumped in and helped him."
