New Hampshire Bank's Newsy Ads Include Consumer Financial Advice

At a time when most New Hampshire banks are shying away from the spotlight, Bank of New Hampshire is trumpeting its name through advertisements with the look and feel of news.

The Manchester-based company is sponsoring "TV BankNotes," 60-second spots that resemble newscasts and deliver financial advice. The commercials air once a week on the nightly news broadcast of WMUR-TV, Manchester.

Radio and Newspapers, Too

The series focuses on readily available funds for automobile, college, and mortgage loans - and features the station's local news anchor.

The ad campaign also includes 60-second radio spots and ads running in newspapers in the state's largest city, Manchester, and in Keene. Church & Main, an ad agency in Keene, created the campaign.

Officials of Bank of New Hampshire, a privately held company with $700 million in assets, say they are eager to win new depositors and increase their consumer loans.

New Hampshire's banking market is still reeling from the seizure and sale by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. of the state's five biggest banks and thrifts, which togetherr had $5 billion in assets.

Three thrifts were sold to an investor group led by William Craig. BankEast Corp. and Amoskeag Bancshares were sold to First NH Bank, a Bank of Ireland subsidiary.
