Shawmut ATMs for blind and Hispanics.

HARTFORD, Conn. - Shawmut National Corp. has modified its 474 automated teller machines to help visually impaired customers, and will adapt some units for Spanish speakers.

For the visually impaired, the machines have been coded with raised letters explaining how to make a withdrawal from a checking account.

And by the end of August, 37 ATMs will offer the option of instructions Spanish. These machines will be in six Massachusetts cities and eight Connecticut cities where many people speak that language.
