Spanish, Thailand banks to use Sendero system.

A bank in Thailand and another in Spain are installing an asset-liability management system developed by Sendero Corp.

Thai Farmers Bank, Bangkok, and Banco Sabadell, Sabadell, Spain, plan to use Sendero CS, which measures existing and potential risk exposure in the balance sheet.

Banco Sabadell executives said one reason they choose the system was its ability to break down and report on all aspects of the institution's business.

"In the asset-liability business, it's important to be able to break down your balance sheet into small bricks," said Joaquim Pascual, the head of the asset-liability area at the $10 billion (US) asset bank.

"We need to be able to clarify our current positions as well as model the future effects of changes in interest rates or net interest income as they relate to such factors as customer behavior, pricing, and embedded options."

Banco Sabadell, which operates 338 branches in Spain and eight offices in foreign locations, is the 13th financial institution in Spain to choose a Sendero system for asset-liability management and financial reporting.

At Thai Farmers Bank, executives will be using the Sendero CS product for risk-exposure evaluation and profitability planning.

The $17 billion-asset bank operates 400 branches in Thailand, as well as offices in London, Singapore, Hamburg, Hong Kong, New York, Los Angeles, Phnom Phenh, and Vientiane.

The two banks are also installing Sendero's Data Solutions, a data-management system.

It is used to transfer data from the bank's own data base and mainframe general ledger system into the PC-based simulation model.

Sendero Corp., a subsidiary of Milwaukee-based Fiserv Inc., is headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona.
