Shinhan first Korean bank to issue Visa's Interlink debit cards.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Visa announced that Shinhan Bank will be the first in Korea to issue the association's Interlink debit cards.

The association reports that no other international direct debit program exists in Korea.

During 1995 Shinhan Bank will issue 500,000 cards with the Interlink logo and plans to acquire 10,000 merchants.

Sixteen more financial institutions in South Korea, the second largest issuer of Visa cards in the Asia Pacific region, have committed to issue and acquire Interlink transactions, and to activate Plus as an international cash access service for their ATM cards.
