Short Takes: Keycorp Pilot-Testing Computerized Planning

Keycorp is starting to offer computerized financial planning services through a pilot program.

"We have absolutely bought into the idea that we need to provide this value-added process," said Jack L. Kopnisky, president of the Cleveland banking company's brokerage.

Keycorp will ultimately choose from two software programs that brokers in Columbus, Ohio, Syracuse, and Seattle are testing.

The systems - supplied by Price Waterhouse, a New York financial services firm, and Sterling Wentworth, a Salt Lake City software developer - create investment strategies based on customers' financial condition and long-term needs.

Keycorp recognizes that the competition for customers investment dollars is stiff, Mr. Kopnisky said. "This is one way we can differentiate ourselves to customers."
