Wachovia Bank S.C. President Is Now Chief Executive, Too

Will B. Spence, president of Wachovia Bank of South Carolina, Columbia, has become its chief executive as well.

Mr. Spence succeeded Anthony L. Furr, who retired. Mr. Spence had been the bank's president and chief operating officer since February, when Mr. Furr's retirement plans were announced.

Mr. Spence joined Wachovia at its headquarters in Winston-Salem, N.C., in 1969. His North Carolina assignments included Belmont city executive, retail banking manager for the southern region in Charlotte, and regional executive for the 29-county central region in Raleigh.

He was executive in charge of Wachovia Corp.'s consumer financial services division in Winston-Salem before moving to Columbia.
