Capital Briefs: Bill Would Double Small-Business Program

The Senate approved a bill Friday that would expand the government's Small Business Investment Company program.

The bill would double to $620 million the amount of money available for direct investment in these ventures. It would also raise the capital requirement for newly created small-business investment companies.

Sixty-six banks own small-business investment companies, which provide government-guaranteed loans to small businesses.
