Pacific Century Financial Corp., Honolulu, and its lead banking subsidiary, Bank of Hawaii, hired Mary Carryer to be vice chairman.

She succeeds Tom Leppert, who left the company to become a trustee for the estate of James Campbell.

Ms. Carryer, 50, will be on Bank of Hawaii's managing committee and will oversee Pacific Century's U.S. mainland operations and its information management group.

She was general manager in charge of consumer marketing and product development and chairwoman of the technology group at Westpac Banking Corp., Sydney, Australia. Before that she had been senior vice president for the corporate planning group at Wells Fargo & Co., San Francisco.
