In Brief: Royal Bank Unit HiresHealth Care Financier

Royal Bank of Canada has hired Athar Khan for its newly formed leveraged finance group.

Mr. Khan, who joins the firm from Citicorp U.S.A., will be responsible for the group's health care-related financing activities in the United States. He will report to Frederick Haddad, managing director of Royal Bank's leveraged finance group in New York.

Mr. Khan was a vice president in the health care groups of Citicorp and GE Capital Services. He also gained extensive corporate and international banking experience at Citicorp.

He will be a senior manager in the leveraged finance group, which has 10 executives.

Mr. Khan will be based in the bank's Los Angeles office.

The leveraged finance group arranges and provides credit and capital markets-based services to highly leveraged and non-investment-grade corporations, both directly and through private equity sponsors.
