In Brief: SunTrust's President To Succeed Its CEO

L. Phillip Humann has been named chairman and chief executive officer of SunTrust Banks Inc., effective March 21. He will succeed James B. Williams, who is retiring that day, his 65th birthday.

Mr. Humann, 52, joined Trust Company of Georgia, a predecessor of SunTrust, in 1969. He has served in numerous executive positions throughout his career, including chairman and CEO of SunTrust Bank, Atlanta.

He is president of SunTrust Banks and a member of the board of directors. Mr. Humann also serves on the regional board of MasterCard International and is a director of Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc., Equifax Inc., and Haverty Furniture Cos.,

Mr. Williams will remain a SunTrust director and continue to serve as chairman of its executive committee.
